Replace Engineering Part Revision

Explanation

Use the Replace Part/Revision action command to replace one part with another or replace a revision of a part with another revision of the same part. An assistant page will guide you through the replacement process. It is important to be aware that the part revisions you are allowed to replace are based on the parameters set in the Defaults basic data page.

Prerequisites

The new part/revision must have form, fit, and function identical to that of the revision being replaced and a state same as or above.

Whether a part revision can be replaced is controlled by the status of the parent part and the parameter REPLACE_REVISION set in the PDM/Basic Data/Defaults page. The possible default values are 1, 2, and 3 (Preliminary, Active, and Released, respectively).

Note: If the part has alternative parts registered, you can only replace the part with a part/revision that exists as an alternative. If no alternative parts exist, all parts will be listed.

Note: Replacing parts that are active or released will cause your construction data/information to be invalid if you have started to manufacture the old version of the part. In most cases it is much more convenient and practical to create a completely new part or a new revision and update the new part’s structure instead.
