Create Component Record

Explanation

To add a component for a product item in the estimate tree structure with part type Manufactured or Purchased, create a new record in the Components tab and define the applicable part data.It is possible to create new records in this tab when it is necessary to connect components to a product item selected in the tree structure. Both existing and new parts can be added.

You can create records for new and/or existing parts. If a new record is created and selecting an existing part number, if a buildable structure- and/or routing revision (just for manufactured parts) exist at the defined required date then the default revision/alternate combination is automatically suggested. You can update the defaulted revision/alternate. It is only possible to select alternate for the part number selected for the component record to add, not its sub-parts. When generating the estimate structure for possible sub-items always the default revision/alternate combination is used for structure and routing.

If no buildable structure- and/or routing revision/alternates exist then the revision/alternate fields left undefined and the user is forced to select among tentative revision/alternates, for a manufactured part that included prototypes. It is not possible to save the component record until revision/alternates are defined for structure and/or routing.

Parameter Estimate Structure determine whether the component record can appear as an item in the tree structure or not, there are two options Enable and Disable. For manufactured parts is it always set to Enable which results in a new item that is added in the tree structure; but for purchased parts it is possible to select. If Enable is selected then the part will appear as an item in the tree structure with the option to create structure levels below. This implies that the item header details can be updated both from the Components tab of the parent and on the item itself if the Estimate Structure parameter is set to Enable.

Note: Estimate cannot handle parts with a recipe structure. A part with a recipe structure is not saved as a component record. If a standard manufacturing part contains a part with a recipe structure then the part is excluded when the estimate structure is generated. Both its recipe structure and its manufacturing routing are excluded. By-products are not handled in estimates and are excluded during estimate structure generation/creation.
