This activity is used to enter information about one or more FMEA failures related to the selected design or process FMEA function. A design FMEA failure can be defined as the manner the function could potentially fail to meet or deliver the intended function because of weaknesses in its design. A process FMEA failure can be defined as the manner in which the process could potentially fail to meet the process requirements and/or design intent as described by the associated function. Each failure can have one or more causes and effects. Causes are the conditions that result in a failure. Effects are the adverse consequences that might result from the failure of a design or process.
To define a FMEA failure for a design or process FMEA function, first open the Design FMEA or Process FMEA page, expand the record for the corresponding part in the record selector by clicking Expand and open the appropriate level. Alternatively open the FMEA Function page and select the record for the specific function the failure should be created for in the record selector. Then, click the new command in the Failures section, enter information about the failure and click Save.
This activity requires the existence of at least one structure or routing alternate with at least one FMEA function.
As a result of this activity, you will have entered information about one or more design or process FMEA failures for the selected FMEA function.
