Define Process FMEA Header

Explanation

This activity is used to define a process failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) header, to create an associated checklist, and to approve the header. A process FMEA header is the connection between a routing alternate and a function, or intended purpose of a part. It contains basic FMEA information such as FMEA type, status, and the user ID of the person who created the FMEA record. Each header can be associated with an FMEA checklist. This is a list of questions that you must check off before changing the the status of the header from Created to Approved.

To create a process FMEA header for a routing alternate select the specific routing alternate and click the new command on the Process FMEAS tab. Then enter data and click Save. To check the associated FMEA checklist open the Process FMEA Checklist page by clicking Process FMEA Checklist on the Process FMEAS tab. In the Process FMEA Checklist section on the page, the default checklist that was defined in the checklist templates basic data for FMEA is displayed. Optionally add, change or delete checklist items. To update the status of the process FMEA checklist from Created to Approved, approve each checklist item either individually or by clicking Approve All in the Process FMEA Checklist section. Finally, to update the status of the FMEA from Created to Approved open the page for the specific routing alternate, select it and click Approve on the Process FMEAS tab.

This activity requires the existence of a routing alternate.
To be able to approve the FMEA header at least one risk priority number (RPN) must exist for the process FMEA. This means that at least one completely defined process FMEA function, failure, effect, cause and control must exist.
