View Material Demand

Explanation

This activity is used to view the material required for the maintenance visit. When a task card or subtask is added to an event on the maintenance order, all connected material will be retrieved. This makes it possible to view requirements early and take necessary action. For instance, reserve or peg required material to ensure the material will be available when work starts.

When material is retrieved to or changed on the maintenance order, the ownership of the material will be set based on following criteria. Note that this is only applicable for maintenance orders with distribution type Work Order or Execution Logic Structure.

When the visit has started and material transferred to a work task, it is possible to reserve and issue the parts. In addition, it is possible to specify additional material demands on the work task. The ownership of the additional material will be set based on the part provisioning rules defined for the maintenance order contract, according to the criteria described above. In here, the customer on the work task will be set as default owner for material with ownership Customer Owned. Setting the ownership based on part provisioning rules and the criteria described above, only applies to material on work tasks with the VIM connection type. Note: If the material is to be provided by the company, but the part is a purchase part with a primary supplier, existing handling of ownership for purchase parts will be applied when additional material demands are added on the VIM work task. When the work task is finished, issued quantities and costs will be transferred back to the material on the maintenance order (or serial order history if the maintenance order has been moved to history). If there are additional material that have been issued, this information will also be transferred.

The following table describes how material is transferred back to the maintenance order when the work task for which it was issued is finished:

Action Transferred to Maintenance Order (or Serial Order History)
Material is issued against a transferred material demand (i.e., from the maintenance order) The corresponding material demand line on the maintenance order will be updated with issued quantity and cost.
A material demand has been added to the work task and issued A new material demand line will be added to the maintenance order with issued quantity and cost.
A transferred material demand has been removed from the work task The original material demand line will remain on the maintenance order with 0 issued quantity and cost.
Ownership of a transferred material demand is changed on the work task and issues are done against the material with the new ownership. Ownership will be updated on the original material demand line along with the issued quantity and cost.

Planned and issued quantities on the material demand lines can be used to analyze the actual utilization as opposed to planned utilization.

To view material demands, click the Material tab from the Manage Maintenance Event page. If you are working with the Execution Logic Structure, select the relevant node in the graphical object structure from the Execution Logic Structure page and click the Material tab.
