When entering a new lead record, it could be that the same record already
exists in the database. In such situations the new record can be treated as
a duplicate. The duplicate check is a process that runs automatically in the
background, identifies similar records that exists in the database and then
notifies the user who enters new lead data, so he/she can decide if
the new record should be saved or not.
The configuration for the duplication check is done in two pages. The Duplicate Check Action Setup page allows to configure the default action for a logical unit (Lead). In the same page it is also possible to specify different actions for specific representatives. The Duplicate Check Rule page allows add/edit of different rules to be used in the duplicate search. There are some rules delivered by default.
