Creating a new revision can be done at any time during the opportunity process. When creating an opportunity, a revision is created automatically, but any new revisions have to be created manually. Revisions are normally created to keep a history log of changes done to the business opportunity throughout its lifetime.
Notice that business opportunity revisons only affects the opportunity lines. The rest of the opportunity belongs to the opportunity header and will remain the same for all the revisions.
