Enter Configuration Characteristics

Explanation

This activity is used to define configuration characteristics for configurable base parts. Configuration characteristics describe an attribute of a configurable part. These characteristics are used in determining configuration specifications and rules for configurable parts.

To create a configuration characteristic create a new record and enter information. In the Configuration Value Type field, select Discrete Option (a list of mutually exclusive choices) or Variable Value (the characteristic comes from a potentially infinite range of values) or Package (a list of mutually exclusive package choices). Enable the Mandatory Qty field, if you want a quantity to be specified for the characteristic value in the configuration. In the Client Display field, select either Standard (characteristic will be displayed during configuration) or Hidden (characteristic will not be displayed during configuration). If you want to be able to connect the characteristic to a work center to be used for planning and scheduling purposes, enable Enable for Planning and Scheduling.

If configuration value type was set to Discrete Option or Package, then create a new item in the Option Values section and enter the relevant values in the Option Value ID and Option Description fields. If you need to add more option values create more items in the same manner.

If you need to adjust characteristic prices by group when using sales configurator, connect a group by entering the group ID in Configuration Characteristic Group.

System Effects

As a result of this activity, configuration characteristics are available for use by configuration families. If Enable for Planning and Scheduling is enabled the characteristic and its option values are replicated as part characteristics.
