Enable Serial Tracking for Engineering Parts
Explanation
Use this activity to enable serial tracking for a part that starts out in
IFS Engineering.
Prerequisites
- An IFS/Part Catalog record must exist for the part.
- The unit of measure for the part must be PCS or another unit of measure
that is defined with a unit type of Discrete and is registered in the IFS/PDM
Configuration.
- If the serial part is in a PDM structure, all parent parts must also
be serial parts with the After Delivery Serial Tracking flag set.
(The flag, Inventory Serial Tracking, may be optionally set.)
System Effects
- The part will be defined as a serial part (a part with serial tracking).
- If the Inventory Serial Tracking flag is set, the part will have
a serial number in the inventory and throughout the life cycle.
- If the Inventory Serial Tracking flag is set, it will be mandatory
to enter serial numbers when receiving purchase orders or shop orders. A
serial part record for the part is created in the serial catalog when a
shop order or purchase order is received.
- If the Inventory Serial Tracking flag is set and the serial numbers
will be used in Project Deliverables, the serial numbers will be reserved
in the deliverables structure and transferred to the corresponding shop
order when the order is created. If only the After Delivery Serial Tracking
flag is set, you will be allowed to set serial numbers on the items after
they are issued from Inventory.
- If the serial numbers will be used in VIM, the serial numbers will be
displayed in the VIM serial windows and will be inserted automatically into
the serial catalog. These serials will have an In Facility status. (These
serials do not have an In Inventory status because they are not created
as a result of a purchase or a shop order receipt in inventory, most vehicle
components typically never exist in inventories, and therefore need only
the After Delivery Serial Tracking flag set. Although some serial
components in a VIM vehicle may have the Inventory Serial Tracking
flag set as well.)
