Enter Resource Connections

Explanation

Perform this activity to enter company, site and employee connections for a resource. In some cases, the connections are created automatically when the resource is created or connected to a group/structure.

• The company connection is needed for resource planning within a certain company. It is possible to have multiple company connections. The company connection must exist in order to define cost and capacity-based parameters.
• Site connections are needed for planning within maintenance and manufacturing and must exist in order to define cost and capacity-based parameters. It is possible to have multiple site connections.
• The employee connection is needed to allow an employee to report time, to retrieve cost based on employment data and to calculate detailed capacity based on HR schedules. It is possible to have multiple employee connections. For people with multiple employee IDs within the same company, one of the employee IDs will be used for retrieving schedules and calculating capacity. This employee ID will be set as the primary scheduling employee ID.

Company and site connections can be entered manually or through the assistant. When a company and site connection has been entered manually, it is possible to define cost, capacity and qualifications for that company and/or site. On the other hand, when connecting company or site with the help of the assistant, it is possible to define the capacity, general and project related costs, as well as qualifications for that company or site at the same time.

Prerequisites

The companies that are possible to connect to are defined on the resource structure. This also limits the possible sites in resource groups.

Connection	Effects
Resource group connected to a company	Makes it possible to use the resource group for project planning within the company.
Resource group connected to a site	Makes it possible to use the resource group for planning within maintenance and manufacturing. For use in manufacturing, the resource group can only be connected to one site. The Scheduling Capacity value can be set for a group per site.
Tool/Equipment resource connected to a site	Makes it possible to use the tool/equipment resource for planning within maintenance. Within forward/line maintenance, it is possible to add resource requirements within having the site connection.
Person resource connected to a company	Makes it possible to use the person for planning within maintenance and projects. Since a person may be connected to several groups, one is set as the primary group.
Person resource connected to an employee ID	The employee ID is used to retrieve HR schedules when calculating capacity for the group and reporting time when performing work within the group. If the same person has several employee IDs in the same company, only one of them is used for scheduling.
Capacity defined for a company or site	Resource capacity is added as basis for capacity calculation for the connected company or site.
General cost defined for a company or site	General cost is added to calculate the planned cost for maintenance resources.
Project cost defined for company or site	Project cost is added to calculate the planned cost for resources planned on project activities.
Qualifications defined for a company or site	Qualification is added to define a job for the resource group.
