A period based safety stock to meet peaks in demand, or periods where lack of capacity occurs. The time phased safety stock is defined at inventory part level and can only be entered for future periods. If the part is handled by MS, the end date of the period must be outside the planning time fence date of the master schedule level 1 part when entered.
Time phased safety stock is put on top of regular safety stock if it is used but is done only during the periods defined. If a part is master scheduled, then the time phased safety stock impact on the system remains until the period’s end date goes beyond master schedule level 1 part's planning time fence. For parts handled by MRP the time phased safety stock's impact on the system remains until a period's end date becomes past due. Time phased safety stock is not applicable in combination with project MS or project MRP.
