Release Shop Order
Explanation
This activity is used to release a planned shop order. Once the order is
released, you can begin processing it. If the shop order is created from a
shop order requisition, where the shop order requisition type is Material
Requirements Planning (MRP), a check should be performed. If alternate
components are used, then you should modify shop order components to avoid
shortage problems.
To release shop order(s) from Shop Order,
Shop Orders, Disposition Shop Order,
Shop Orders Materials Availability pages and
Production Line Management/Shop Orders tab, click
Status and then Release.
To release shop order(s) from Material Availability Summary,
Machine Load, Labor Load, Machine
Operations Scheduling and Labor Operations Scheduling
charts, select the segment(s) representing the order(s) to release
and click Release.
When releasing a shop order, you can perform an availability check on
that order by enabling the Automatic Availability Check option.
This tells the system to perform an availability check on the selected
shop order. (Note that the availability check will occur only if you
have met the conditions outlined in the Prerequisites section below.) If
you do not want to perform the availability check, disable this option.
Prerequisites
- This activity requires the existence of a shop order with status
Planned.
- To perform an availability check, the value of Auto
avail check of shop order must be either Yes or Allowed
on the Parameters
for Supply Chain and Manufacturing page.
- If the value is Allowed, then the
Availability Check option is editable.
- If the value is Yes, then the Availability
Check option is enabled and cannot be edited.
- If the value is No, then Availability
Check option is disabled and cannot be edited.
- The Availability Check option must be enabled in the
Supply and Demand Controls section on the
Inventory Part
page for the materials in the shop order, in order to perform the
availability check.
- The Expected Lead Time must be defined for the part
in the Lead Times and Supply Dates section on the
Inventory Part
page.
- If the shop order is connected to a project activity in
IFS/Project, the activity must be released.
System Effects
As a result of this activity:
- The status of the shop order changes to Released.
- If an outside operation is included, the system will release the
outside operation, if this was not already done during the
planning of the shop order. This will create an associated purchase
requisition or purchase order depending on the selected value in the Outside Op Supply
drop-down on the Shop
Order/Operation tab. Outside operations are not handled
for component repair orders (CRO). An external service order (ESO) is
created for any outside work.
- If the shop order is connected to an activity that is not released,
a message appears when you attempt to release the shop order.
- If you perform Next Level Demand planning, a single level material
plan will be created. The part planned will be sourced using make/buy
splits and supplier part information to determine the order proposals.
If the net requirement is for a part that is sourced from a multi-site
planned internal supplier, then a distribution order will be created. If
the part is sourced from a make/buy split with supplier splits this
process would result in the creation of a combination of outputs in the
form of shop requisitions, distribution orders, and purchase
requisitions. Otherwise, the inventory part type and the inventory part
supply type will determine the type of requisition or order to create.
- If planning alerts exist, the Planning Alerts option on
the Shop Orders
page will be enabled.
- If MRP has used alternate components, the
Alternate Component Used option on the
Shop Orders
page
will be enabled.
- Note that if the shop order is connected to a project activity, the
shop order will begin to report Committed Cost and Hours to the project,
once it has been released. Committed Cost and Hours will be reported
through the project cost element that is based on the posting control
type for Work-in-Progress.
- If the shop order has material lines supplied from a DOP order with
parts in temporary inventory, the parts will be automatically reserved
to the material line. However, if the parts reserved to DOP temporary
inventory are included on a transport task they will not be delivered
until the transport task has been executed.
