Create Routing Manually
Explanation
Use this to create a routing with the operations needed to manufacture
the part. A routing can include only machine information, only labor
information, or both. It can have an alternate, be serialized, and also have
specific tools associated with it..
Note: A routing with an outside
operation must exist before you can work with an outside work center.
Thus IFS/Purchasing must be installed before you can create routings for
outside operations.
When a manufacturing inventory part is create, a manufacturing routing
header with alternate * is automatically create. You can then directly start
entering the required operations.
Routing headers must be created manually for other types of routings such
as repair and prototype routings, and routings for purchased parts.
When the routing header and alternate exist, select the relevant
alternate and add the required operations in the Operations
tab:
- Enter a suitable operation number and description for the operation.
The operation number represents the sequence in which the operations are
performed.
- An operation must always be connected to a Work Center. This
is the production area where the operation is performed. It can be
representing a machine, group of machines or assembly area.
- For outside work centers:
- You must enter an outside operation item in the Outside Op
Item field. This part must be defined as a non-inventory
purchase part. The outside operation item shall have the same
supplier as the outside work center, or if the outside work center
is not connected to a supplier, a valid supplier can be any active
supplier connected to the purchase part.
- You can also specify how much of the outside operation reporting
process that should be handled automatically and the default supply
type in the Outside Op Supply Type and Outside Op Rpt
Level drop-downs.
- If the supplier ships the part directly to the next supplier,
enable the Send to Next Supplier option. Note: When
this option is enabled it indicates that the outside operation items
should be sent directly from the supplier connected to the outside
operation to the supplier connected to the consecutive operation,
assuming that the consecutive operation is also defined as an
outside operation
- The Machine Setup Time and Machine Run Factor is used
to schedule the operation and to book machine load against the work
center. It is recommended to always include machine setup and/or run
time even for pure labor operations as assembly. Note: If you want
to schedule operations using IFS/Advanced Planning Board, the operation must
be defined with a Machine Run Factor.
- Fixed Resource Share is by default 1, meaning that the full resource
capacity is utilized for the duration of the operation. If the operation utilizes
part of the resource capacity, define the share in Fixed Resource Share
field or specify how much of the total capacity one unit will utilize in the
Resource Share per Unit field.
- Enter the unit of measure for the manufacturing time in the Factor Unit
column.
- If personnel is required to setup the operation, specify the
Labor Setup Time and enter Setup Labor Class and Setup
Crew Size. You can also enter the required qualification profile in
the Emp Setup Qual Profile field.
- If personnel is required to run the operation, specify the Labor
Run Factor and enter Labor Class and Crew Size. You
can also enter the required qualification profile in the Emp Qual
Profile field.
- If specifying overlap, enter the required value in the Overlap field
and select the applicable unit in the Overlap Unit field. Enable the
Setup Inside Overlap option if you want the setup time to be included
in the overlap.
Note: The meaning of operation overlap is how early
a succeeding operation is allowed to start in relation to its latest scheduled
preceding operation start time.
Once an operation has been added, you can also use the Routing
Operations page to edit it.
To be able to plan or to use the routing, the alternate status must be changed
from Tentative to Plannable or Buildable.
Prerequisites
This activity has the following prerequisites:
- A work center must have been defined in Work
Center.
- The part must be defined in
Inventory Part with the part type set as manufactured or manufactured
recipe.
This automatically creates a routing record for the part.
- If you work with labor operations, labor classes must be defined in
Manufacturing Labor Class.
System Effects
As a result of this activity:
- The system creates a routing with operations for a part.
- All time information you enter for operations, such as setup time, move
time, and efficiency, affect both the operation scheduling and the setup
and unit times of the part.
