Direct Revision Transfer to Site
Explanation
To perform a direct transfer of one or more engineering revisions to a
site from the Engineering Revision Transfer Actions
page, select one or more rows and click Transfer. The
transfer assistant contains two steps. First, you may edit the transfer
data. Second, you can select transfer parameters. To perform a direct
transfer, select the transfer type Direct Transfer.
Options:
- You can select whether you want to perform a single level transfer
or transfer all levels of the parts.
- You can select to create protoype structure.
- You can select to execute the transfer online, otherwise it
will be performed as a batch job.
- You can select to include parts where part type has been changed.
This means that there is a difference between the values in Part Type
and Current Inventory Part Type fields. Please note that changes to part type should always
be done in the inventory part first.
- You can select to include proposed start and/or end dates. If
proposed start date is not defined or used, the current system date will
be used for the transfer.
- You can use the "ignore" command to ignore engineering part
revisions from engineering transfer process, if there are engineering
revisions which you do not need to transfer to the site.
To make a direct transfer from the Engineering Revision Transfer Status
page, the PDM Preliminary Rev Change value must be set to
Changed. To perform the direct transfer, click
Direct Transfer. The same options as above apply.
Prerequisites
This activity has the following prerequisites:
- The destination site must exist in the system.
- The engineering revision must exist.
- Prototype Part Revision Prefix must be defined on the
Site/Manufacturing page in order to create prototype
structures.
- A part transfer template of type Engineering must
exist for the part type to be transferred.
System Effects
As a result of this activity:
- Data about one or more new parts, part revisions, and structures are
created if needed.
- Since the application uses date effectivity, the transfer will
attempt to use the tentative revision that has a phase-in or
effective date that is closest to the date that is listed in the
proposed start date. If no tentative revision exists, the system
will either create the first revision, as is the case when the part
is new to the manufacturing site, or it will create a revision that
is numbered sequentially from the latest revision that is presently
buildable. This situation will occur except when the first revision
is tentative, the system will not use the first tentative revision,
instead system will create a second tentative revision. When
additional revisions are transferred, the system will overwrite the
structure of the second revision until the second revision is made
buildable. Any unwanted tentative revisions for the parts should be
canceled before the transfer, in order to avoid overwriting.
- Depending on the part transfer template used, alternate components
defined in engineering may also be transferred, and may overwrite
existing alternate components defined in manufacturing.
- If the direct transfer is processed for a single level, routing
information based on a routing template may also be created.
- If you start the direct transfer function from the
Engineering Revision Actions page, the engineering revision
or revisions are moved to the
Engineering
Revision Transfer Status page.
- On the
Engineering
Revision Transfer Status page, the status of the particular
part is changed from Active to Transferred.
- Prototype structures will create a unique Part Revision with
the Prototype Part Revision Prefix. Prototype structures are
created in Tentative state and will not be overwritten by
different engineering part revisions, but will always create a new
prototype structure in an engineering transfer. However, if an already
transferred engineering part revision is transferred again due to
changes in the engineering structure it will overwrite the particular
prototype structure related to the engineering part revision. Creating
prototype structures via an engineering transfer can be done only for
single level transfers.
