The Project Material Requirements Planning process is enhanced with the additional feature Planned Netting Group (PNG).
A planned netting group is a collection of project activities (PPSA). A PPSA can be defined as the lowest level of the work breakdown structure. It comprises of a program ID, project ID, sub project ID, and activity ID. An example of a PPSA is PROJ-1.SUB-1.ACT-1. Here the project ID is PROJ-1, sub project ID is SUB-1 and the activity ID is ACT-1. A PNG can contain one or more PPSAs.
The purpose of having a planned netting group is to perform planning for a group of project activities. It is possible to connect one PNG to another PNG. However, both PNGs should be within the same site. When you connect two PNGs together, all other PNGs that are already connected to one PNG will be automatically connected to the other PNG and its existing connected PNGs. Likewise, if you disconnect a PNG, it will be disconnected from all the other connected PNGs.
Example: PNG1 is connected to PNG2. PNG3 is connected to PNG4 and PNG5. If you connect PNG1 to PNG3, then PNG4 and PNG5 will be automatically connected to PNG1. Also PNG3, PNG4, and PNG5 will be connected to PNG2 as well. If you disconnect PNG3 from PNG1, then PNG1 will be disconnected from PNG3 and vice versa. Similarly, PNG3 will be disconnected from PNG2, PNG3, and PNG4 as well.
The multiproject material requirement planning (MPMRP) process allows you to plan material transfers between the connected PNGs.
The transfer process will be handled by an object called material transfer requisition (MTR). Transfers can occur between connected PNGs as well as between the PPSAs that are linked to the connected PNGs.
In the MPMRP process, when a PNG is specified, the MPMRP engine will perform planning on the group of PPSAs linked to the specified PNG. Based on the parameters defined in the PNG, excess parts will be either transferred to or borrowed by another PPSA, which needs the same parts. When the parts are borrowed, the PPSA that receives the excess parts needs to pay the lending PPSA. This is called Payback.
To control the sequence in which the MPMRP reviews the available material from each PPSA within each PNG, a priority number is assigned. Similarly, a priority number is assigned to each PNG. However you cannot have the same priority number for two PNGs within the same site. Additionally, it is not possible to have the same priority number for more than one PPSA within the same PNG either.
The object of having the priority number is, if two PNGs have a demand for material on the same date, IFS Cloud will first assign the available supply to the PPSA with the highest priority number. On the other hand, if the PPSAs have the same priority number, the PPSA included in the PNG with the highest priority number will be considered first.
If required, parts can be excluded from a specific PPSA. The excluded parts will not be considered in MPMRP calculation.
Based on the MPMRP and PNG data, the MPMRP engine will perform netting calculation
on the group of PPSAs. Thus, the MPMRP will create action proposals, requisitions,
schedules, and MTRs.
The Planned Netting Group page requires the following parameters to control the part transfer between PPSAs in the PNG.
