Edit Resource Shifts

Explanation

Perform this activity to edit existing shifts or breaks or delete shifts or breaks. This activity updates the corresponding capacity and creates a shift deviations. Note that it is not possible to enter shifts or breaks that are overlapping in date and time. The Account Date is mandatory for a shift and is usually the same date as the shift start date, but it is possible to select another date within the Shift Start and Shift End date. This can be applicable for overnight shifts as an example.

If changes are made to a shift or break that has been generated from the resource's base schedule, shift deviations are created to record the deviation between the base schedule and the updated shift. The changes made to the shift or break will directly be reflected in the resource's capacity. If a shift deviation record is removed, the original shift schedule is restored.

If shifts or breaks have been edited, shift deviations of type "Edit" and corresponding records in capacity are created.

If breaks has been added to the shift, then shift deviations of type "New" is created as well as a corresponding capacity records to reflect the change of capacity. If the shift deviation is then removed, the deviation record as well as the record in capacity are entirely deleted, as the newly created shift did not exist in the resource's base schedule originally.

If a shift or break has been deleted, it will create a shift deviation of type "Delete" and the corresponding record in capacity is deleted. If a shift is deleted, it will not be possible to enter a new shift within the deleted shift's start and end time, as this will be overlapping data.

If a the start or end time of a generated shift is edited so that it overlaps an existing break, then that break will be automatically be removed. If the Shift start or end is then again edited so it no longer overlaps with the previously removed break, then the break is re-instated as it was originally generated. For this particular scenario, no shift deviations are created.

Note: If a Shift Freeze Period has been defined in Resource Basic Data, then changes are not allowed to be made to shifts from My Resource Shift Gantt and Resource Shift Calendar pages during this period.

Prerequisites

Resource Shifts must have been generated.

System Effects

Deviation Type Description
New A new break has been added to the shift.
Edit The start and/or finish time of a shift or break has been updated. The generated start/finish time, as well as the new start/finish time are entered in the shift deviation record.
Delete The shift and/or break has been deleted. The generated start/finish time are entered in the shift deviation record.

If a Shift Freeze Period has been defined in Resource Basic Data, a change log is created if the shifts is edited within that freeze period, or alternatively, if the edited shift belongs to the logged in user's own resource schedule. The change log can be viewed in Resource Shift Change Log page.
