Reserve Customer Orders
Explanation
Use this activity to reserve parts or handling units from inventory for customer
order(s). All customer orders containing unreserved material are displayed.
The reservation will be done according to the automatic reservation logic i.e.
according to rules configured for FIFO, zone ranking, handling units etc. This
is described in detail in About Reservation Management. In addition
to reserving with the automatic reservation logic order-by-order, you can do
this line-by-line, shipment-by-shipment, or via a batch job. The line-by-line
reservation is performed on the
Reserve Customer
Order Lines page. The batch job is performed on the
Create Customer
Order Reservations page. The shipment-by-shipment reservation is
performed on the different shipment pages.
If handling units are considered the reservation logic will try to reserve
full handling units - this is setup on page Site/Warehouse Management/Automatic
Reservation. Note that actual reservation still is made on the inventory
part in stock record but the reservations try to reserve complete handling units
when considering content.
If the quantity of an order line is connected to a shipment, the reservation
is done per order line and shipment. If the quantity is connected to several
shipments, the oldest shipment will be reserved first. The quantities connected
to shipments are reserved before any remaining quantity not connected to any
shipment is reserved.
Prerequisites
- The customer order header and at least one order line must have been
entered and released
- The parts/handling units must be available in stock. Note that created
transport tasks with destination move to inventory, can be considered as
available to reserve depending on configuration on the site.
- If you want to reserve customer order rental lines, parts with rental
ownerships must be available in inventory.
- If the customer order is created for the delivery of an exchange component
or a repair part and a serial number and/or lot/batch number has been defined
on the purchasing side, that specific serial and/or lot/batch must be available
in stock.
- If you want to reserve parts/handling units from project inventory,
you should have set the supply code on the customer order line to Project
Inventory (i.e., the customer order line must have been connected
to a project activity).
System Effects
- The stored sales parts/handling units are reserved for the particular
order(s) and shipment(s).
- For rental lines, parts/handling units with the same ownership as on
the rental line will be reserved.
- A shortage will occur when the full quantity cannot be reserved for
the order line.
- The system will check if the customer(s) has exceeded his or her credit
limit.
- The system will perform the full advance invoice payment control.
- The system will check the partial reservation option allowed for the
customer order(s).
- The system will not handle expired parts.
- Once a non-inventory part has been reserved, the system will regard
it as ready to be delivered.
- For order lines connected to a shipment, any optional events, defined
to be executed at reservation in the shipment flow, will be triggered. Then
the next event in the shipment flow will be triggered if the shipment type
allows this.
- If reservation from created transport task is enabled and material from
a created transport task is reserved, then the system tries the best to
keep the reserved material on the same transport task. This will be possible
when you have complete handling units on the transport task or when the
entire stock record is included on the transport task, otherwise the reserved
material is removed from the transport task.
