Classifications are used for systematic division of estimates. This could for instance be useful when the end usage of the estimate is completely different or when the effort and time needed to prepare the estimate cannot be considered to be equal. There are numerous characteristics that can be used to categorize estimates. Examples of possible classifications are; degree of project definition, end usage of the estimate and method used to create the estimate.
