Connect Input UoM Group

Explanation

Use this activity to connect an input UoM group to a part. This will enable the part to use multiple units of measure. You can perform the connection in the Part or Inventory Part page. Input UoM groups can be connected to either purchased or manufactured inventory parts. You can connect only a single group to a part; but you can connect one or more parts to a single group. The input UoM group that you want to connect must always have the same inventory UoM as the unit code (or inventory UoM) of the part to which you want to connect.

If you have connected an input UoM group to a part from the Part page, all the new inventory parts that are created from that part catalog record will display the input UoM group as the default group. You can manually change the default group if necessary.

You can connect an input UoM group to an inventory part that already has one or more sales parts connected to it. In such situations, you must make sure that the conversion factor between the sales UoM and the inventory UoM, as defined on the sales part, is set to 1 on all the sales parts connected to the inventory part. If the conversion factor is not 1, you cannot connect any input UoM group to the inventory part. At the same time, if an input UoM group is already connected to an inventory part, you can only connect the sales parts whose conversion factor is set to 1.

Note: You cannot change the unit code on the part catalog if an input UoM group is connected to it. If you want to change the unit, you must first disconnect the input UoM group from the part. Disconnecting a group from the part in the Part page will NOT disconnect the group from the inventory parts. Likewise, if the connection of an input UoM group with an inventory part is removed, the connection with the part catalog record will not be removed

To disconnect a group, simply delete the value displayed in the relevant field in the part record. You can disconnect an input UoM group from a part, even if the group had already been used by the part.

System Effects

Note: You can use multiple units of measure only in processes for which the use of at least one input UoM is made available. To make an input UoM available for a process, select one or more of the options in the Input UoM Group page. The options are: the Manufacturing Usage Allowed, the Purchasing Usage Allowed, and the Sales Usage Allowed.
