Connect a Technical Drawing

Explanation

This activity is used to connect a technical drawing, that exist on the Technical Drawing page, to a master part. This will be the main technical drawing for the part which has defined design requirements/assembly instructions and many other technical related information.

Technical drawing can be connected to a part at three different places.

On the Part page for a master part it is possible to add a technical drawing. Once the technical drawing is connected to the master part, the engineering parts and the inventory parts created using the master part, will automatically get the technical drawing connected.

When creating a new inventory part, it is possible to add a technical drawing to the inventory part, if master part doesn’t exist. Here a new master part record is created including the technical drawing.

When creating a new engineering part using the Create New Part assistant, it is possible to add a technical drawing, if master part doesn’t exist. Here also a new master part record is created including the technical drawing.

When the engineering parts and inventory parts have the technical drawing connection, then technical drawing revisions can be connected to engineering part revisions and inventory part revisions.

Change of a technical drawing which is already connected can be done at master part level. It is not possible to change the technical drawing at engineering part or inventory part (or it’s revisions). If technical drawing is changed/removed at the master part;
