Set up Class Relations

Explanation

This activity is used to define the class relations which determine the relations between classes. This in turn determines the relation possibilities between a design object and another design object, a design object and a design part, and a design part and design part. Class relations need to be defined separately for Design Object and Design Part Classes.

An organized class relation scheme simplifies the plant registration process by limiting the number of relations that appear in a list of values and indirectly helps to ensure that only reasonable relations can be made. For example, when registering a transmitter, the only possible functional parent relation to select from would be an instrument loop.

This activity can be performd on Class Relations tab of the Class page. The super class is displayed in the header. Selecting a class relation description and a sub class creates a relation between the super class and sub class.

Prerequisites

A design object or design part class.

System Effects

Two way class relations, super class to sub class and sub class to super class are created. This steers the allowed relations between design objects and design part.
