Select Part Number

Explanation

Selecting a specific part for forecast work is done in the Select Part No toolbar. The parts available are determined by the selection in the Select Flow toolbar. The sort order of these parts depends on the selection in the Select Sort Order toolbar. Changing the sort order will not change the current part number selection; only the position of the part in the sort may change, although not necessarily. When you change the selected flow, the current part number selection remains if it exists in the new flow selection. If it does not exist, then the first part number (according to the selected sort order) is displayed.

Prerequisites

This activity requires that the appropriate flow (a flow that contains the desired part) is selected.

System Effects

As a result of this activity, the current forecast for the selected Part is displayed in the Forecast Graph and Forecast Table windows if these are active in the workspace. The current part's group attributes will be presented in the Select Group toolbars, and its standard models and parameters will be presented in the Detail View.

Management by exception selections:

When the objective is to work with parts having poor performance with respect to forecasting errors, you may not know the identity of these parts. In this case, sorting the database of forecasting parts with respect to an appropriate performance measure is the correct thing to do.

  1. Select the appropriate Sort Order, depending on the characteristics of the forecast errors or your objectives.
  2. Starting with the part having the worst performance (system default when selecting error sorting), cycle through the parts by clicking on the Next Part (Shortcut key: F6) button until you find a part whose forecast you believe can be improved.
