Enter Resource Capacity

Explanation

Perform this activity to define the capacity of a resource. Resource capacity is used when analyzing available capacity compared to planned resource demands.

Resource details related to capacity calculation are defined for a certain period in the Capacity Basis tab in the Resource Details or the Service Resource Details page. Capacity can be defined for each company and site connection on the resource.

Generating resource schedules and capacity can be run as a re-occurring scheduled task, or manually using the Generate Resource Schedules and Capacity dialog.

Individual Resource Capacity

Scheduled capacity is calculated using the calendar or HR schedule (applicable only to person resources) defined on the resource and reflects the resource's working hours when any breaks have been deducted. The resource utilization percentage is the effective work hours per day for the resource. This field is defaulted to 100% but can be updated. Both the Scheduled Capacity and the Utilization Capacity can be viewed in the Resource Analysis page after the generation.

The capacity of a crew resource is calculated based on the crew schedule for each defined period. Hence, the number of members on the crew does not impact the crew capacity.

Resource Group Capacity

Capacity is either based on Individuals or Group:

If based on Individuals, then the capacity of the group will be calculated by summing-up the individual resource capacity. For an individual resource either a HR schedule or a calendar is used together with the resource's % in Group to determine the percentage of total work hours that the employee is available for the resource group to which the resource belong.
If based on Group, then the capacity of the resource group will be calculated based on the calendar defined on the resource group, as well as the parameters (such as Group Utilization% and Adjustment%) defined in the Capacity Basis tab.

Prerequisites

Connection to at least one company or site must exist on the resource.
A valid HR schedule or calendar must be connected to the resource or resource group.

System Effects

Resource capacity details will be used as basis for Capacity calculation. The result of the capacity calculation can be viewed in Resource Availability page or in Resource Analysis page.
