Introduction of the on-condition and condition
monitoring concepts will permit a drastic reduction in the number of scheduled component overhauls. The number of components may have required scheduled overhaul, be for instance reduced to a figure in the order of 40:1. Other components could remain
on-condition, if suitable inspections could be accomplished to determine the continued serviceability of the component, until the next scheduled inspection.
An example of a condition based requirement could be to evaluate the component state by
comparing a measurement taken with condition reference data. This can be done by
ordering the vehicle to maintenance on a set schedule or by automatically
monitor the component using built-in test equipment (BITE).
