Schedule Operation Block
Explanation
Use this activity to schedule shop order operations connected to
an operation block.
To perform this activity from:
- Operation Block and Operation Blocks
pages, click Schedule Operation Block.
- Shop Order Operations, Shop Order/Operations and
Shop Floor Workbench pages, select an operation connected to
the block, click Operation Block and then click
Schedule.
- Machine Load, Labor Load,
Machine Operations Scheduling and Labor
Operations Scheduling charts, select the segment representing
an operation connected to the block, click Schedule Operation
Block.
- Connect Operation(s) to Operation Block
assistant, enable Schedule and click Next.
Operations can be either:
- Scheduled in Parallel. Operations are scheduled
with the same start or finish date/time (depending on scheduling
direction).
- Scheduled in Sequence. Operations are scheduled to
start after another from a given start or date/time (depending on
scheduling direction).
Scheduling direction can be either:
- Forward Scheduling. Operations are scheduled
from a given start date/time.
- Backwards Scheduling. Operations are scheduled from
a given finish date/time.
More options in the dialog:
- Preceding Block / Succeeding Block fields can
optionally be used to automatically set the Start
Date or Finish Date equal as the preceding block's finish
or start date. The Preferred Resource will be set the same as the preferred resource
of the selected preceding/succeeding block.
- Enter the date/time on which you want the operations in the
operation block to start or finish in the Start Date or
Finish Date field depending on the scheduling direction. Note that the
new start/finish date for the operations will be based on the infinite
scheduling logic and may differ from the field value. For instance, if
the provided new start date is on a non working date, the operations
will receive a new start date corresponding to the first available work
date/time from the field value.
- Select the resource on which you want the operations to be
scheduled in the Preferred Resource field.
- If you want to avoid slack between operations preceding the block operation
on the same shop order when rescheduled to a later date/time, enable the
Compress Operations option.
Prerequisites
- An operation block in status Planned, Released or Started
with one or several connected operations must exist.
- The site should not use constraint based scheduling server.
- To schedule in parallel, the Concurrent Operations
drop-down on the Work Center page must be set
to allow concurrent operations.
System Effects
Forward scheduling operations in parallel:
- The Schedule Direction for the operations
connected to the operation block will be set to Forward
Scheduling and scheduled parallel to each others. The
Start Date of the operations will be set according to the start
date provided in the dialog.
- Operations parallel to, and succeeding the rescheduled operations
will also be set to Forward Scheduling and rescheduled.
- If Compress Operations is enabled and the new
date/time for the rescheduled operation is later than the original
date/time, operations on the same shop order preceding the rescheduled
operation will be set to Backwards Scheduling and
rescheduled with a Finish Date adjacent to the
rescheduled operation new Start Date.
Backward scheduling in parallel:
- The Schedule Direction for the operations connected
to the operation block will be set to Backwards Scheduling
and scheduled parallel to each others. The Finish Date
of the operations will be set according to the finish date provided in
the dialog box.
- Operations parallel to, and preceding the rescheduled operations
will also be set to Backwards Scheduling and
rescheduled.
- If Compress Operations is enabled and the new
date/time for the rescheduled operation is earlier than the original
date/time, operations on the same shop order succeeding the rescheduled
operation will be set to Forward Scheduling and
rescheduled with a Start Date adjacent to the
rescheduled operation new Finish Date.
Forward scheduling in sequence:
- The Schedule Direction for the operations connected to the operation
block will be set to Forward Scheduling and scheduled sequentially of
each others with the first operation starting on the start date/time
provided in the dialog box. Operations within the block will be ordered
following below priority:
- 1. Operation Priority.
- 2. Operation original Planned Start Date/Time.
- Operations parallel to, and succeeding the rescheduled operations
will also be set to Forward Scheduling and rescheduled.
- If the Compress
Operations option is enabled and the new date/time for the
rescheduled operation is later than the original date/time, operations
on the same shop order preceding the rescheduled operation will be set
to Backwards Scheduling and rescheduled with a Finish Date adjacent to
the rescheduled operations new Start Date.
- If Schedule with new
Setup Time between Operations is enabled, all operations
except the first one will be scheduled with a new setup time as defined
in the Setup Time field. The Scheduled Setup Time
field on the operation will be updated
with the new setup time.
Backward scheduling in sequence:
- The Schedule Direction for the operations connected
to the operation block will be set to Backwards Scheduling
and scheduled sequentially of each others with the last operation
finishing on the finish date/time provided in the dialog box. Operations
within the block will be sorted following below priority:
- Operation Priority.
- Operation original Planned Start Date/Time.
- Operations parallel to, and preceding the rescheduled operations
will also be set to Backwards Scheduling and
rescheduled.
- If Compress Operations is enabled and the new
date/time for the rescheduled operation is earlier than the original
date/time, operations on the same shop order succeeding the rescheduled
operation will be set to Forward Scheduling and
rescheduled with a Start Date adjacent to the
rescheduled operations new Finish Date.
- If Schedule with new Setup Time between Operations
is enabled, all operations except the operation scheduled to start first
will be scheduled with a new setup time as defined in the Setup
Time field. The Scheduled Setup Time field on
the operation will be updated with the new setup time.
