This activity is used to supply serial parts with fleet management-specific information. Each serialized part is automatically created when a serialized engineering part is created.
If you have been running IFS/PDM-Configuration for some time before installing IFS/Fleet and Asset Management, and want to create the engineering parts that already exist as serial parts in IFS/Fleet and Asset Management you can use Copy Engineering Parts function. This will automatically create all serialized engineering parts already defined in IFS/PDM-Configuration as serial parts in IFS/Fleet and Asset Management.
The following must be defined prior to defining maintenance data for the serials of the new serial part:
When serial parts are defined, the Life Limited field does not display any value. This field must be updated to Life Limited or Not Life Limited before these parts can be used in an active template structure. Build the serial template structures for the top template parts to enable the stress ratings to be defined for the top template part. These stress ratings will be valid for all the levels below if there are no other stress ratings defined for the lower levels. When the template structure is set to the Active status, the system will check whether the Life Limited field is set to Life Limited or Not Life Limited for the serial part.
The following conditions exist for the serial part, based on the value in the Life Limited field:
A serial for a serial part that is defined as Not Life Limited cannot be used as a life limited part.
A serial for a serial part that is defined as Life Limited can be used as life limited and not life limited. The template determines whether the serial part in the actual position is treated as life limited or not life limited.
A serial that is initially registered as a Life Limited part can be changed to a Not Life Limited part. A serial that is initially registered as a Not Life Limited part cannot be changed to a Life Limited part.
Note: Revisions are automatically created when new engineering part revisions are created.
The following must have been defined for the serial part revision prior to defining maintenance data for the serials:
Fault deferral codes
Maintenance codes
Maintenance programs
Condition limits
Maintenance codes and Deferral definitions can be registered against a serial part revision in Serial Part Revision page.
The following should be defined as soon as the new serial part revision is used in a template structure:
Life limits
Task Cards
Modifications
