Initiate and Define Project
Explanation
Identifying and defining the boundaries of a project will enable you to have
a well defined start to the project. Once the scope and the objectives are set
you can start assigning resources to the project. The project manager can then
commence the planning and execution stage.
The following actions should be manually performed during the initialization
stage of the project :
- Define the project purpose and scope
- Define the project goal and measurable project objectives
- Define high level requirements, assumptions, any identified constraints
and risks
- Define a high level project plan, with a description, milestones if
any and boundaries.
- Establish the financing means of the project and a summary of the budget
- Estimate the project resource requirements as well as the assigned project
manager and authority levels
- List of the project approval requirements, i.e., what constitutes the
success of the project, who will decide the project is successful and sign
it off.
Once these actions are carried out, the project manager can go ahead with
getting the required approval and create the project with a better understanding
of it.
