Each control plan manufacturing, control plan purchasing or control plan inventory consists of two levels: a header and one or more lines. This activity is used to create new control plan lines using a control plan template.
You can copy or reference the control plan template. If you select copy, the control plan template lines will be copied to the control plan and no link is maintained to the original. Therefore, later changes in the control plan template will have no effect on the control plan. If you select the reference option, a link is maintained to the control plan template. Therefore, any change in the referenced template will have an effect on the control plans that were created from it, unless the reference to the template has been removed. You can see the reference to the template on the control plan header, and you can use the Where Used tab to see the control plans that are connected to the control plan template.
To apply a control plan template to a control plan click Apply Control Plan Template and choose the specific template. Select Copy if you only want to copy the lines from the template to the control plan. Select Reference if you want to keep a reference between the control plan and the template. Then click OK.
Note: If a manufactured part is configurable, operation numbers and work centers referred on the template lines may not exist on the routing alternate, but you should check that they refer to combinations of operation number and work center number that may be the result of the configuration rules.
