This activity is used to make inventory reservations from a sourced line. You can perform reservations against your own inventory (local reservation) and other sites (supply site reservation).
Whenever you source parts from either your own inventory or through internal suppliers (the other site in the application), you are able to reserve parts before the customer is released.
Three different types of reservations are possible when performing reservations on a sourced line:
Manual Reservation: You manually allocate how many parts are going to be reserved. You can also choose the inventory location from which the parts will be picked. As a manual reservation is done online, you can ensure that the parts are available and reserved immediately. You cannot reserve more parts than stated in the order line. Reservations may be changed until the corresponding internal customer order has been created.
Automatic Reservation: The system selects the locations from which the part should be reserved. If defined on the inventory part, an ATP check is performed on the supply site.
Instant Reservation: An automatic reservation on the supply site is performed as soon as the customer order line is saved.
It is not possible to change the Supply Site Reservation Type on a sourced line. The default value setup in Site-To-Site Reservation and Availability Setup will be used.
After a reservation is performed, you can always un-reserve or change the reservation using manual reservation, either on your own site (local site) or the supply site.
You can perform all these actions for inventory parts. It can also be performed on component lines for a package part.
