Define Average Utilization per Serial
Explanation
This activity is used to define average utilization values per serial. In
addition to entering an average utilization value manually, this activity gives
you the option to calculate an average value based on historical operational
loggings or a planned average value based on an operational budget.
When entering average values for a serial, you can enter a valid operational
parameter for the serial’s part number and maintenance group. In addition,
you can define average values for operational parameters valid for serials further
down in the structure of the top serial. The average value per month for the
operational parameter can be based on a calculated value, a manually entered
value or an average value spread down from a higher level in the structure.
If the value has been spread down from an upper level of the structure, it cannot
be updated.
When the average utilization information is saved on the topmost serial,
the average value information is spread down on all serials in the structure.
This is to avoid traversing the structure to find the average value for all
serials when performing the due calculations. The average value entered on the
topmost serial, will always manage the value of installed serials.
The source of the average value is set automatically when the average value
is calculated, manually entered or spread for an operational parameter. Valid
source values are:
- Historical - the historical average value per month is calculated based
on historical operational loggings for the last 12 months. If the serial
does not have loggings for an entire year, the average value is calculated
based on the number of months with operational loggings that do exist for
the serial.
- Planned - the planned average value per month is based on the current
month defined in the operational budget.
- Manual - the average value per month has been manually entered.
- Spread - the average value per month has been inherited from a higher
level in the structure.
The average utilization value can be calculated based on historical operational
loggings or the planned operational budget value defined for the serial. The
calculation of the average historical value is based on the last twelve months
of operational loggings for the serial. If the serial does not have loggings
for an entire year, the average value will be calculated based on the number
of months the serial has operational loggings. The calculation of the average
planned value, is based on the current month defined in the operational budget
for the serial. Note: The average planned value is only calculated for the primary
releasing operational parameter and only for vehicle parts.
The 1st day of every month, the calculation of planned and historical average
values for a serial is automatically recalculated by a background job if the
source is set to Historical or Planned.
To perform this activity, open the Serial Information page
and click the Average Utilization tab and create a new record.
- Enter the operational parameter that the average utilization value should
be defined for. Use the drop-down to select a valid operational parameter
per maintenance group defined for the serial or for serials further down
in its structure.
- Enter the average utilization value for the serial. To calculate the
average value, option Calculate Average Value must be used.
The entered average value will be spread down on underlying serials in the
structure. If the value has been spread down from an upper level of the
structure, the value in this field cannot be updated.
- The Average Value Source field will be defaulted to Manual
but can be changed. If the value is changed to Historical or Planned,
the average value calculation associated with the value will be triggered
when saving the record. The calculated average value will then again be
displayed in the Average Value field. Average value source Spread
cannot be manually selected but will be automatically set if the average
value has been spread down from a serial above in the structure.
To run the average value calculations, select the row that contains the operational
parameter on which the calculation is to be performed, and then click the option
Calculate Average Value. The Calculate Average Value dialog
opens.
- If you want to calculate the average planned value for the selected
primary releasing operational parameter, enable the Planned Average
option.
- To calculate the average historical value for the selected operational
parameter, enable the Historical Average option.
Note: When the average value calculation is finished, you
can view the calculated average value in the Average Value field in the
Average Utilization tab.
Prerequisites
- Valid operational parameters must be defined.
- To calculate the average planned value, monthly planned operational
values must have been defined on the operational budget. For more information
refer to the
Enter Operational
Budget or
Adjust Budget per Month activities.
- To calculate the average historical value, operational loggings for
the serial must exist. For more information refer to the
Report Operational
Logging activity.
System Effects
- An average utilization value will be defined for a serial and will be
utilized when performing due calculations. If this has not been defined,
the average value defined on the maintenance group for the serial will be
used.
- If the average value calculation is run, the historical average value
and the planned average value is calculated for the serials operational
parameter.
- When the average value information is updated for a serial, all due
calculations are automatically run for the serial and its structure. The
calculations are run as a background job to avoid performance drops.
