The local check-out path is a key concept in IFS Document Management. This path, or folder, is where IFS Document Management will place files that the user checks out, for viewing and editing as well as for printing, sending by e-mail and other file operations.
The path can be set from the User Settings page. By the default, the first time the user uses a file operation, the system will set the local check-out path to a folder named IFS under the user's documents folder in Windows. An example in the Windows 7 operating system could be C:\Users\Alex\Documents\IFS. The folder is created if it does not already exist.
Files that are checked out for editing are placed directly in this folder, while files checked out for viewing or other non-editing purposes, are stored in a folder named temp, in this folder. Since "important" files under editing is placed separately from "temporary" files, this makes it harmless to clean the extra temp folder at any time.
Note: If the name of the checked out file contains a special character which is not allowed to be used in a file name by the user’s operating system, by default an encoded version of the name is saved in the local checkout path. The same scenario is applicable for the file operation Copy File To.
