The centralized part description should be used when it is required: when the same part description is displayed for the Part Catalog, Inventory Part, Purchase Part, and/or Sales Part, or when it is needed to display a translated part description based on the user-selected session language.
If the centralized part description is enabled on the site record for the specific part type, the system will fetch the part description from the Part page, which would be the single place needed to maintain the centralized part description for this part type and site.
If there is a translated description available on the Part Language
Descriptions page, and this description has the same language
code selected by the user at the start of the session, the translated description
will be displayed when the centralized part description is enabled for this
site and part type.
In the Customer Order and the Purchase Order flows,
the part description is fetched using the foreign language code defined for
the customer or the supplier.
In the Customer Order flow, the Sales Part Description is fetched in the following order:
In the Purchase Order flow, the Purchase Part Description is fetched in the following order:
The Centralized Part Description is defined for each Site and for each Part Type on the Site page. The option Use Part Catalog Description as Description for Inventory Part In the Warehouse Management section indicates whether the centralized part description should be used for the Inventory parts on this site. And the options Use Part Catalog Description as Description for Sales Part and Use Part Catalog Description as Description for Purchase Part on the Sales and Procurements section indicate whether the centralized part description should be used for the Sales and/or Purchase part.
