Enter Handling Unit Types

Explanation

This activity is used to create and maintain handling unit types. This task is to be performed by a system administrator or an equivalent person.

Handling unit types are available when you define the handling unit structure, either for parts in templates, in inventory, in shop order, for a shipment etc. The handling unit structure is built up by defining a structure of different handling unit types which in turn can contain a specified number of parts. When a particular handling unit type is selected, the weight of the handling unit type is included in the calculation of the total weight of the handling unit structure. This handling unit information can be used when planning load volumes and weights.

By specifying additive volume for a handling unit type, it determines that the volume of the handling unit is dynamic and defined by the content attached to this handling unit. A typical example of such a handling unit type is a pallet. Handling unit types not having additive volume would typically be a box which has a fixed volume, regardless of content.

Connecting the packaging material part to a handling unit type can help determine the consumption and maintain traceability of the packaging material when performing product packing processes.

Prerequisites

At least one handling unit category must exist. Typical categories could be pallets or packages, but it is possible to freely define the handling unit categories desired.
