Add or Modify Part Status

Explanation

Use this activity to add or modify part status codes and associated parameters. Part status describes the parts' different phases; this controls the extent to which the part can be used by the system. This task is to be performed by a system administrator or equivalent person.

You can specify what is allowed when it comes to onhand quantities, demands, and supplies. The predefined status code is A, Active, and this code cannot be deleted or modified. The default settings for Active part status are: Onhand Allowed, Demands Allowed, and Supplies Allowed. Active part status will be the default code for all new inventory part records. This code can be changed, if desired.

The Quantity On Hand column indicates whether or not a part can have a quantity on hand. If inventory still exists for a part, it cannot have a part status of Onhand Not Allowed. The default setting is Onhand Allowed.

In the Demand column, you can indicate whether or not demands are allowed. An inventory part must have the setting Demands Allowed for it to be used as a sales part. The default setting is Demands Allowed.

In the Supplies column, you can indicate whether or not supplies are allowed. If this is set to Supplies Allowed, parts linked to this code can be purchased and received; otherwise, they cannot. The default setting is Supplies Allowed.

Using these parameters in different combinations, you could set up codes for example, for experimental, obsolete, or replacement parts. Parameter settings could be used, for example, to help you reduce the quantity of obsolete parts by allowing demand, but no longer allowing supplies.

MRP and PMRP will consider the demands only when you have set the On Hand Qty, Demand and Supplier parameters for the part to Onhand Allowed, Demands Allowed and Supplies Allowed respectively.
