This activity is used to perform a putaway for parts that are either: to be received in the purchase order arrival flow, currently in an arrival or quality assurance location (purchase parts), parts that have been received into the default location for a manufacturing order (shop order and/or production schedule parts) and parts from a general stock location (inventory parts).
This activity can be performed through Register Arrivals, Receive Shop Order Manually, Production Schedule Receipt, Production Line, Receipt, Move Into Stock, Inventory Parts In Stock, Handling Units in Stock and Handling Units in Receipt pages.
Note that for parts that are to be received in the purchase order arrival flow or parts that have been received into the default location for a manufacturing order (shop order and/or production schedule parts), the putaway is performed automatically based on basic data settings. For parts currently in an arrival or quality assurance location or parts in a general stock location, the putaway has to be triggered manually.
For inventory parts in a general stock location, putaway is performed for the quantity available on that location and the parts will be moved to the best available location. Note that if parts are already stored in the best putaway zone, no transport tasks will be created. For the other flows, the putaway will try to find suitable locations for the quantity entered on arrival/receipt or move transaction.
The putaway logic will evaluate the part storage requirements regarding capacity, conditions and capabilities and compare it to inventory locations, evaluating locations in the order of putaway zone ranking in order to find the best available location. The result of the putaway process is the creation of one or several transport tasks.
It is also possible to perform putaway of handling unit in these flows and then it will be the capacities, conditions and capabilities for the handling unit that is considered.
Dimensions: The height, width and depth of the handling unit is used
Weight: The gross weight of the handling unit is used
Volume: Volume for
handling unit is used. Could be additive volume (pallets) or specified volume
for handling unit (box)
Temperature: Putaway consider the common temperature
interval required for all the parts in the handling unit.
Humidity: Putaway
consider the common humidity interval required for all the parts in the handling
unit.
Capabilities: Putaway will consider all the capability requirements
for the parts that included in the handling unit.
Handling unit capacity:
Putaway considers any handling unit capacity i.e. the maximum number of top-level
handling units, that is allowed on a location for a certain handling unit type. As
soon as a location capacity exists for a handling unit type and that handling
unity type is moved there or planned to be moved there, the location will be
dedicated only for this handling unit type.
Putaway zone: Putaway will consider the putaway zones that are common for all the part in the handling unit.
When performing putaway for a complete order object (for example a purchase
order receipt) it will perform putaway on the outermost handling units as defined
for that object and try to keep those handling unit structures intact.
If
putaway is performed on the most detailed level (for example per inventory part
in stock record level for a purchase order receipt) it will perform putaway
per such record one by one. This means that the handling unit structure would
be split.
Then it is also possible to perform putaway for a specific handling
unit in a handling unit structure (like selecting specific handling unit in
the Handling Units in Receipt page). Then the putaway
is performed to that handling unit and its sub-structure. If any parent handling
unit structure exist, the handling unit will be disconnected from that parent
structure.
Transport tasks are created suggesting the move from a temporary receipt location to the best available location(s) in stock. Note that the putaway process could include moving parts into arrival, quality assurance or default receive location for manufacturing first.
