Reserve Operation Linked Material

Explanation

Use this activity to reserve material linked to a specific operation. By linking material to the operation where it is used, you avoid having to reserve material too far in advance. This ensures that material is not locked up for an unnecessarily lengthy period.

The supply code of the selected material lines is considered when reserving material.

The value in the Reserve/Issue Method field of the shop order material line is considered when automatically reserving/issuing material. This value determines how to reserve/issue material to the shop order.

For operation connected material, the option selected in the Outside Reserve/Backflush field on the Work Center page is considered when automatically reserving/issuing material. This value determines how the reserve/backflush of material is allowed from locations other than the work center inbound locations.

If the Shared Location option is enabled on the Locations tab of the Work Center page, material can be reserved/issued to any demand. If disabled, only the material demands from operations that are connected to the work center will be allowed to reserve/issue material from this location.

If the shop order is connected to a batch balance ID and the Allow reserve and issue from lot/batches outside the batch balance option is enabled on the Site/Manufacturing page, reservation of the component which the preceding balanced shop order is supplying is limited to the lot/batch numbers received from this shop order. Note: The shop order is limited to reserve supply received from the preceding shop order, however any other shop order without a connection to a balance ID is allowed to reserve the same material.

To reserve operation linked material from:

If the operation has been split, select the Reserve to All Split Operations if you want to reserve the quantity required for all split operations. Else, only the quantity required for the entered operation is reserved.

System Effects

The system reserves the material connected to an operation up to its required quantity. If the material is available on multiple stock records, it is reserved according to the priority defined on the Site/Warehouse Management/Automatic Reservation tab. If the shop order is in status Released before the reservation, the status is changed to Reserved. The status of the reserved material lines are also changes to Reserved.

When reserving a material line with a connected supply pegging, the automatic reservation will reserve the quantity that is not pegged.

For shop orders connected to project activities the system reserves according to the following priority:

A. Project Inventory connected to the same activity.

  1. Issue from location identified for the shop order component.
  2. Inbound locations for the identified work center location for the operation associated with the component, if any.
  3. From where the value in the Location Type field is Floor Stock.
  4. From where the value in the Location Type field is Picking.

B. If A was not fulfilled and supply code is Project Delivery

  1. Try to reserve components from the demand activity sequence using the project delivery structure.

C. If A or B was not fulfilled, look for project inventory connected to a different activity, but belonging to the same project

  1. Issue from location identified for the shop order component.
  2. Inbound locations for the identified work center location for the operation associated with the component, if any.
  3. From where the value in the Location Type field is Floor Stock.
  4. From where the value in the Location Type field is Picking.
