Add Routing Operations
Explanation
Use this activity to add (internal) operations to a routing alternate.
Routing operations are the work steps required to manufacture, repair,
prototype, disassemble, assemble, or disposition a part.
To add a routing operation, select the routing alternate to which the
operation should be added, create a new line on the Operations
tab and enter relevant operation attributes.
- Enter a suitable operation number and description for the operation.
The operation number represents the sequence in which the operations are
performed.
- An operation must always be connected to a Work Center. This
is the production area where the operation is performed. It can be
representing a machine, group of machines or assembly area.
- The Machine Setup Time and Machine Run Factor is used
to schedule the operation and to book machine load against the work
center. It is recommended to always include machine setup and/or run
time even for pure labor operations as assembly. Note: If you want
to schedule operations using IFS/Advanced Planning Board, the operation must
be defined with a Machine Run Factor.
- Fixed Resource Share is by default 1, meaning that the full resource
capacity is utilized for the duration of the operation. If the operation utilizes
part of the resource capacity, define the share in Fixed Resource Share
field or specify how much of the total capacity one unit will utilize in the
Resource Share per Unit field.
- Enter the unit of measure for the manufacturing time in the Factor Unit
column.
- If personnel is required to setup the operation, specify the Labor Setup Time
and enter Setup Labor Class and Setup
Crew Size. You can also enter the required qualification profile in
the Emp Setup Qual Profile field.
- If personnel is required to run the operation, specify the Labor
Run Factor and enter Labor Class and Crew Size. You
can also enter the required qualification profile in the Emp Qual
Profile field.
- If it should be possible to manually update the
operation quantity on the shop order, enable Manual Operation Qty.
This can be useful for a rework or
repair operation when the full quantity is not expected to pass through the operation. If Manual Operation Qty is enabled
you can also specify how much of the full quantity that is expected to
pass through the operation as a percentage in the Operation Qty
Factor field. Then the operation quantity is set to
that percentage of the shop order lot size by default.
- If specifying overlap, enter the required value in the Overlap field
and select the applicable unit in the Overlap Unit field. Enable the
Setup Inside Overlap option if you want the setup time to be included
in the overlap.
Note: The meaning of operation overlap is how early
a succeeding operation is allowed to start in relation to its latest scheduled
preceding operation start time.
Once an operation has been added, you can also use the Routing
Operations page to edit it.
To be able to plan or to use the routing, the alternate status must be changed
from Tentative to Plannable or Buildable.
Prerequisites
- An internal work center must have been defined on page Work
Center.
- A routing alternate must exist.
- To enable Manual Operation Qty,
the Routing Type must be set to Repair,
Disassembly or Remanufacturing.
- If Structure/Routing Update
on the Site/Manufacturing page is set to
Restricted or Enhanced, the status of the
alternate must not be Buildable.
- If you work with labor operations, labor classes must be defined on
page
Manufacturing Labor Class.
System Effects
As a result of this activity, operations are added to the routing
alternate.
