Create Work Center

Explanation

This activity is used to create and revise a work center. The information entered is used when working with operations, shop orders, master scheduling, MRP, RRP, APB, MSO, and cost estimates. The work center is also a resource that can be used, for example, in project planning and maintenance.

Once a work center is created, you can use the Characteristics tab to associate part characteristics with the work center. Characteristics can be used to plan and schedule operations, sharing similar characteristic values together to minimize setup times. You can use the Setup Matrix page to modify the setup matrix for a characteristic used by IFS/Constraint Based Scheduling (CBS) and MSO.

You can use the Locations tab to associate inventory locations with work centers. Such locations are designated as either inbound or outbound. Inbound locations are places where materials come from for the work center. Outbound locations are where materials are sent to when the work center is finished with them.

In the Work Center Code drop-down, you can specify whether the work center is internal or outside. For outside work centers a supplier can entere but it is not mandatory. If a supplier enters an outside work center, then this supplier will be used when creating Purchase Requisitions or Purchase Orders for outside work centers.

The outside operation report level option is set as a default for outside operations using the outside work center. Updating the values on an outside work center does not change the setting on previously created operations and routings using the same work center.
