Define Tool ID

Explanation

This activity is used to define a new tool ID. Tool IDs can be linked to routings or control plans to specify particular tools to use.

Use the Manufacturing Tool page or Manufacturing Tools page to view, add, or edit records of tool IDs.

The tool is a scheduling constraint if a finite shop order schedule is created using APB or MSO.

The tool can be finite or infinite and has a connected calendar where its availability is defined.

Prerequisites

This activity has the following prerequisites:

• A tool type must be defined in Manufacturing Tool Type.

System Effects

As a result of this activity:

• A new tool ID record is created.
• A tool instance with the same name as the tool ID is created.
• The tool ID is available in the List of Values and can be linked to
  • Routings on the Routings/Routing Tools tab.
  • Control Plans on the Control Plan Inventory/Tools tab, Control Plan Manufacturing/Tools tab or Control Plan Purchasing/Tools tab.

Note: The tool IDs that are defined to be inactive will not be displayed in the List of Values.
