Use this activity to automatically generate serial numbers and reserve them to a DOP header, or a DOP order for a part with Auto Generate Serial Numbers enabled.
When reserved to a DOP header, the serial numbers are transferred to the DOP order and finally the shop order. When reserved to a DOP order, the serial numbers are transferred to the shop order. The reserved serial numbers are used when the system receives parts into inventory.
To generate serial number reservations, click Serial Reservations and then Generate Serial Number Reservations.
A message will indicate the generated serial numbers.
As a result of this activity, the generates serial numbers and reserves them to the DOP header or DOP order. The logic will identify the highest existing serial number for the part and start the generation from the highest existing serial number +1. The reserved serial numbers can be viewed on the Serial No Reservations tab.
