A procurement category assortment will be used to, in a tree structure, group similar products and services into categories. The categories can also be connected to suppliers or supplier requests to define what type of products and services they can deliver. The categories will have responsible persons and will be used as a basis to follow up on the historical spend within the organization as well as setting strategies and targets for the procurement within the category going forward. They are also used to categorize products and services exposed in the self-service procurement solution as well as categorize the suppliers and supplier requests.
This activity is used to define the header part of the category assortment that will be used as a hierarchic structure of procurement categories.
Note that a procurement category assortment is based on a regular part assortment and can also be defined in the regular assortment pages. The category assortment can be used as any other assortment including all related features, but it also includes some procurement specific dimensions that can only be defined on the procurement side.
The category assortment can be used by one or several companies and if you want to categorize your suppliers and supplier requests into the assortment structure you can optionally define a level in the structure to use when classifying the suppliers. This is useful if you use a taxonomy with a lot of sub-nodes in the structure and you want to classify the suppliers on a higher level.
If you want to base the procurement category assortment on an existing taxonomy, it is possible to define a classification standard for the assortment. There can only be one active assortment per classification standard.
