Enter Handling Unit Accessories

Explanation

This activity is used to create and maintain handling unit accessories. This task is to be performed by a system administrator or an equivalent person.

You must enter the weight and volume of the handling unit accessories. Handling unit accessories are available when you define the handling unit structure, either for parts in templates, in inventory, in shop order, for a shipment etc. Handling unit accessories are material that is added to the handling unit structures. Examples of handling unit accessories could be pallet collars, lids and different type of packing material. When a particular handling unit accessory is added to a handling unit structure, the weight of the handling unit accessory is included in the calculation of the total weight of the handling unit.

A handling unit accessory can be set as having additive volume, meaning that the volume of the accessory will be added to the total volume of the handling unit. It will also mean that the volume for the handling unit is fixed to that total volume. A typical example of this would be having a pallet and then adding one or several collars to that pallet as accessories (additive volume set). The total volume for that handling unit including accessories and any parts attached, will then be the pallet volume plus the accessory volume, as it is seen as a fixed box. If the accessory does not have additive volume, it will not be included in the volume calculations for the handling unit. A typical example of the latter would be an insulation material used as an accessory. Using our example, the volume of the parts or any child handling units would be added to the total volume of the pallet (that have additive volume).

Connecting packaging material part for handling unit accessories can help determine the consumption and maintain traceability of the packing accessories when performing product packing processes.
It is also possible to reuse packaging material parts when the Reusable parameter is enabled. Able to reuse packing accessory when the Reusable parameter is enabled.

Optionally an inventory part can be connected to the Handling Unit Accessories basic data, in order to get consumption of packaging material as part of the packing process.

 

System Effects

• A handling unit accessory is defined, including the weight and volume.
• The defined handling unit accessory can be used in different processes e.g. the shipment process, the receipt process, in inventory processes etc.
• The defined handling unit accessory can be used in the customer order shipment process when creating handling unit structures in a shipment.
• The defined weight of the handling unit accessory is included in the calculation of the total weight of the shipment.
• The connected packaging material part gets consumed during the packing process in inventory, shipment, and receipt. Therefore, the packaging material part in the inventory parts in stock get decreased as the packing process take place. If the packaging material part is reusable and in a complete unpacking, the consumed packaging material parts will return to the inventory, increasing the on-hand stock quantity.
