Define a Modification Revision
    Explanation
This activity is used to define a modification revision. A modification can arise as a result of new technology,
safety demands and/or quality demands specified by the manufacturer or due to repeated errors and damages. A
modification can lead to the generation of a maintenance event that will be executed within a certain time limit on
the given serial(s). You can also use a modification to control one-time event types that are to be executed on the
    selected serial(s).
If the modification leads to changed functionality, serials and serial structures can have different revisions
on the documentation during the period of time the modification program is carried out. Therefore, modifications
have a close association with revision handling on parts, template structures, serials and serials structures with
    related documentation.
Modifications can be defined in the Define Modification page or the
Modifications page. Subsequent revisions must be created by using the New
    Modification Revision assistant.
Following is a description of some of the information that can be entered when defining a modification:

      - The modification category, i.e., whether it is optional, recommended or mandatory to perform the
      modification.
- The assignment type of the modification, i.e., whether the modification is applicable for all serials of the
assigned part revisions, serials for a given serial range, or whether the modification is for documentation
purposes (e.g., user manuals for serial parts). For documentation type modifications, only the modification
definition and structure impacts will be applicable.
- Days forewarning, i.e., the number of days before the calculated due date that the maintenance event for the
      modification should be created.
- The rescission date, i.e., the latest date for execution of the modification on all assigned serials.
- The effective date, i.e., the date the modification becomes effective. All serials assigned to the
modification will be due-calculated based on this date. If a date is not given here, all assigned serials will be
due-calculated from the date the modification is activated.
- Additional information on the modification. When a maintenance event is generated for the modification, this
information will be transferred to the Mx Event Remark field of the event.
- Enable or disable the Supersede Rule option. When a modification is replaced with another
the supersede rule will take effect. This rule controls the behavior of serials that have been assigned and/or
already complied with. The following general rules apply:

          - If the option is enabled, you must comply with the new modification revision regardless of whether you
have complied with the previous modification revision or not. Serials are assigned to the new modification
(the superseding modification) and the value in the Perform Modification field found in the
Modification Details/Assign Serials tab will be set to To Be Performed. An exception for
this instance will be when the category is Optional for which the value in the Perform
Modification field will be set to Not To Be Performed.
- If the option is disabled, you do not have to comply with the new revision if you have already complied
with the previous revision of the modification. Serials are assigned to the new modification (the superseding
modification) and the value in the Perform Modification field will be set to Not To Be
Performed. Note: The same will apply if supersedence is defined between modifications with
different modification codes, not only revisions of the same modification.

- Enable or disable the Keep Perform Modification Definitions option. It is possible to copy
Perform Modification changes (i.e., serial assignment) from one revision of a modification to another, provided
that both revisions have the same modification category and there are no references to a different modification.
To do this, this option must be enabled. When the new revision is activated the assigned serials will be updated
with the relevant changes. Note: The Keep Perform Modification Definitions option cannot be enabled
if the Supersede Rule option is enabled and vice versa.
- Enable or disable the Allow Quick Reporting option. If a modification compliance is to be
done without performing a full scale event or work order, this option can be enabled. This will enable you to
sign off the modification without performing a full order flow. If the modification originates from an internal
change request or change order, you can make reference to the change order.
Documents can be connected to a modification by using the functionality in Attachments. When a
modification is deleted, the connection to the document will be removed. If there is a need to delete the document
itself, this must be done manually using IFS/Document Management.
    New Modification Revision
The New Modification Revision assistant can be used to create a new revision of a
modification and copy certain information to it.
The additional information entered in the assistant, will be transferred to the Mx Event Remark
field of the corresponding maintenance events. The Keep Perform Mod Definitions option should be
enabled if the serial assignment (Perform Modification field settings for the modification
assigned serials) should be copied to the new revision, provided the modification category is the same for the old
    and new revision.
Only one revision of a modification can be active at any given point in time. When the new modification revision
is set to the Active status the currently active modification revision will be set obsolete. A warning
message will appear when the new modification revision is to be set active and you have the option of canceling the
    operation.
    Prerequisites

      - Modification types must have been defined.
- Modification execution level codes must have been defined.
- Maintenance time units must have been defined.
System Effects

      - A new revision of the modification will be created.
- If selected, repair codes assigned to affected parts at user-allowed sites (i.e., for the logged-in user)
will be copied to the new modification revision.
