Plan Project Resource Requirements

Explanation

Use this activity to plan the resource requirements of a project. Resource requirements can be planned in two ways:

When resource requirements are planned for resource groups, resource individuals that fulfill the defined criteria, such as skills, competencies, and certifications, can be allocated to projects. Additionally, resource individuals that do not meet these requirements can also be allocated to projects to provide flexibility and address any immediate resource needs. Defining resource requirements is crucial for the successful planning and execution of projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the desired quality standards.

Inherited Resource Requirements

When resource groups are planned for project activities, the resource requirements defined in the resource groups are automatically applied to the project activities. This ensures that projects adhere to standardized requirements, improves efficiency by reusing existing requirements and reducing the need to define project resource requirements from scratch. It also minimizes the risk of missing critical requirements, as predefined requirements in resource groups are well-established and aligned with organizational standards. These inherited resource requirements cannot be modified or deleted, maintaining the integrity of the predefined criteria. If the resource group requirements are updated, these changes are automatically reflected in the project resource requirements plan.

Project-Specific Resource Requirements

Resource requirements can also be defined specifically for projects, in addition to the inherited requirements from the resource group. These requirements can be defined by specifying a requirement source, requirement, operator, and a requirement value. The selected requirement source will subsequently impact the available fields and the values that can be used in those fields. These project specific resource requirements can be modified and deleted as needed.

Project Resource Planning Records

If resource requirements have been planned for project activities, the resource planning records will indicate that these requirements exist. Existing resource requirements can include those inherited from the resource group or newly added requirements specific to the project.

Resource requirements can be planned within the resource planning records at the project, sub-project, and activity levels.
