Create Engineering Part
Explanation
Use this activity to create a new engineering part. When you create a new engineering part, the system
automatically inserts it into the part catalog. You can create a revision at the same time by specifying the
revision in the first revision column. If the engineering part you create already exists in the part catalog (i.e.,
the part is registered as an inventory part), you must ensure that the unit code and standard name ID are identical
to the information in the part catalog.
Prerequisites
- Standard names must exist on the Part Basic Data/Part Standard Names page.
- If you automatically want a default value for the first revision, the default value for the Entry Code
field on the PDM/Basic Data/Defaults page must have been registered as PART_REV.
- If you want to categorize the engineering parts using part classes, the part class must exist on the
PDM/Basic Data/Part Classes page.
- If you want to categorize the engineering part using the part main groups, the main group must exist on the
Part Basic Data/Part Main Group page.
- If you set the value in Provide Code column to Phantom, the relevant MPL Part field must have
the value No Demand.
- If planing method is set as a Std. Planned Part , the relevant MPL Part field must have the
value Demand.
- The part must not already exist as an inventory part with Part Type set to
Remanufactured, Disassembly Component, By-Product,
Co-Product or Core.
System Effects
- An engineering part will be created.
- The first revision of the engineering part will be created if desired.
- Characteristics, manufacturers, and alternative parts can be registered for the engineering parts.
- If a revision exists with a structure, characteristics rollup calculations for a specified attribute can be
run.
- When a new revision is created for an existing part and if planing method is set to Standard Planned
in the Create New Engineering Part step in the Create New Part assistant , it will be automatically copied
to the Product Structure page.
