Move Serial Object
Explanation
This activity is used to move a serial object from one site to another site or to a different equipment
structure in the same site. A serial object is not located in a fixed place in the equipment structure, but resides
only temporarily in one place. This can be performed in Serial Object page using
Move/Copy button, choosing Move Serial Object option.
When moving a serial object, if the object is moved within the same company, its Object value
remains unchanged and does not get replaced by the Object value of the new parent. However, if the
object is moved to a different company, the Object value is removed. Furthermore, the Cost
Center value is inherited from the new parent after the move.
Serial object is moved to a new site if the values are given for the Company and
Site in the Move Serial Object dialog. Additionally user has an option
to specify the equipment structure that the serial object moved to by using the Change Belongs to
Object option in the dialog.
Once the new site is added user has the option to create new PM revisions for the existing PM actions in the
moving Serial Object/Objects and the values added in WO site and Maint Org will
determine work order site and maintenance organisation of the new PM revisions created once the serial object is
moved to the new site
Serial object can be moved to a equipment structure without changing the site by using the Change
Belongs to object without specifying a site.
If the moving serial object has test points/parameters defined on it, it is possible to register the current
measurement by the time of the move using Register Measurements option. Additionally, it
is possible to define, modify or remove the Update from Object value on the parameters, if those
should change after the serial object is moved. Once the measurements are entered or Update from
Object value is modified, the Apply command needs to be selected in order to register and
save them.
Note - Serial Object will simply move to the new site without a belongs to object if the Change
Belongs to Object option is not chosen when moving to a new site.
Prerequisites
Move Serial Object to a new site
- No open work orders, work tasks or work task steps for the moving Serial Object or the child objects.
- Serial Parts of the moving serial object and child objects should exist in the new site.
- Serial Objects with direct connections to meter invoice lines, service/request contracts, service requests or
service quotations are not allowed to move. Serial objects included in a service/request contract with
Use line on structure can be moved to different site or a parent provided there is no ongoing
work through the service/request contract and PM actions generated through service contracts are obsoleted
- Scrapped Serial Objects are not allowed to move.
- Serial Objects with current position "In Inventory" cannot be moved.
- Cannot move the Serial Object if there is an equipment object with the same object ID exists in the new
site.

- The current position for the serial object must be In Facility.
- Scrapped Serial Objects are not allowed to move.
System Effects
Move Serial Object to a new site
- Site of the Serial Object and child objects will change into new site given in the dialog.
- Users in the new site can see all the previous maintenance history carried out to the moved Serial Object
Structure from the Maintenance History command in Serial Object.
- Existing PM actions are obsoleted while a new revision will be created for the existing PM actions in the
moved Serial Objects with WO Site and Maint Org specified in the dialog. Existing PM actions are obsoleted and
new PM revisions are not created for any PM actions with Revision Control Off.
- Belongs to object will change accordingly. If the user doesn’t enter a Belongs to object, existing
belongs to object value is removed after the site move is performed.
- Object Cost/Year details are removed once the site move is performed.
- Existing code part cost center values in moved serial objects will change with respect to the company of the
moved site. The code part object value, however, is removed when moved to a different company and remains the
same when moved within the same company.
- If a measurement is added, it is visible in the measurement history.
- Update from Object on Test points/Parameters is reflected, if modified.
- All historical movements of a serial object is shown in Serial Object History.
- If any child serial objects in the moving structure inherits measurement from outside the moving
structure(Update from object is from outside the moving structure) then those inheritances will be removed
automatically once the Serial object structure is moved.
