Generate Resource Schedules and Capacity
Explanation
Perform this activity to generate resource schedules and capacity.
Resource schedules are generated using the base schedule defined on the resource (HCM Schedule or Calendar). It
is also possible to generate resource schedules from resource connected Shift Pattern
Templates.
The resource schedule consists of resource shifts that can be edited to change the resource availability and
capacity without changing the base schedule (HCM Schedule or Calendar). Changes to a shift will immediately reflect
on the individuals resource’s availability and capacity as well as the capacity of connected resource groups.
The resource shifts can when generated, be viewed and edited in multiple pages; Resource
Availability, Resource Shift Gantt, My Resource Shift Gantt,
Resource Shift Calendar and My Resource Shift Calendar page
Resource capacity is used when analyzing available capacity compared to planned resource demands, and reflects
the resources working time as well as the non-working time. Capacity is calculated for individual resources as well
as resource groups and takes into account any member deviations that are applied during the period defined. The
resulting capacity is calculated based on the setup in Capacity Basis tab on the resource
and gives valuable insights to Scheduled Capacity, Utilization Capacity and
Adjusted Capacity for a resource and can be viewed in Resource Analysis
page.
In the Generate Resource Schedules and Capacity dialogue, it is possible to define the
offset for the start and end date of the generation. Crew capacity is calculated for the crew planned periods that
falls within the offsets in this dialog and will take account of any crew member deviations that are defined for
the given period.
There is also an option to select to remove all existing Shift Deviations for the period
defined by the offsets in this dialog.
Prerequisites
- Default offsets for resource schedules and capacity can be defined in Resource Basic Data,
and they can be updated in the dialog.
- A valid calendar or HCM schedule must be connected to the individual resource if the generation of resource
schedules and capacity is based on individuals.
- If shift pattern templates are used to generate schedules and capacity for resources, the Resource
Shift Template have to be connected to each resource and the Use Shift Pattern option
must be set to Yes.
- A valid calendar must be connected to the resource group depending on if the capacity calculation is based on
the resource group.
- Utilization must be defined on the individual resource or resource group.
System Effects
- Resource Schedules are generated, where the shifts can be edited to reflect the resource's availability
and capacity for a specific date and time. The shifts can be viewed in Resource
Availability/Shifts.
- The resource base schedule information can be viewed in Resource Availability/Base
Schedule.
- The resource shift information can be viewed in Resource Availability/Base
Shift.
- If a resource shift template was used to generate shifts, then properties set on the shift type (such as
attributes, On-Call flag, Overnight Shift flag) will also be set on the resource shift.
- Capacity is calculated and stored by work day based on either HR schedule or calendar and can be viewed in
the Resource Analysis page. For individual resources, capacity can also be viewed in
Resource Availability/Capacity.
- Resource shift change logs are created if a shift freeze period has been defined and the shifts are changed
within that freeze period. The change log can be viewed in Resource Shift Change Log
page and the shift freeze period is defined in Resource Basic Data.
- If applicable, the resource shift will be created with a Scheduling Dataset value.
The dataset on the shift will be dereived in accordance with the following priority order:
- Dataset on the Resource
- Dataset on the Service Delivery Unit
- Dataset on the Service Organization
