Enter Resource Group
Explanation
Perform this activity to create a resource group with the help of an assistant. Resource groups have different
types:
- Crew Groups are used in service management, asset management, and project management to plan and to allocate
crews for different jobs.
- Machine groups are groups of one or more machines or other fixed production equipment and is one of the most
important resources in manufacturing planning. A machine group may also contain other machine groups to
facilitate planning on a higher level.
- Person groups are crucial for planning with people and often define a group of persons that can perform the
same type of job.
- Tool/equipment groups, like person groups, often define groups of equipment that can be used to perform the
same type of work.
Resource groups can be enabled for use in different processes:
- Manufacturing - Machine groups (work centers), person groups (labor classes) and tool/equipment groups
(manufacturing tool groups) are used in routings, capacity requirements planning and shop orders.
- Maintenance - Crew groups, person groups and tool/equipment groups are used on work task for work order and
maintenance order operations. Tool/equipment groups can also be used on work tasks in Mobile Maintenance for
Aviation. Crews, persons resources and tools/equipment can be allocated to the different work tasks.
- Service - Crew groups, person groups and tool/equipment groups are used on work tasks for service request.
Work can be allocated to crews, persons resources and tools/equipment.
- Project - Machine groups, person groups, tool/equipment groups, and crew groups can be used in project
planning, project reporting, and forecasting through Project Resource Forecasting. All
types of resources can be allocated to perform different project activities.
When creating a resource group the usage of the resources are defined by selecting; Use in
Manufacturing, Use in Maintenance, Use in Projects and/or Use in
Service.
When creating the resource group using the assistant, resource group details can be added optionally such as:
connection to resource structure, general and project related costs, resource capacity and qualifications. If the
resource group is used in maintenance or service, maintenance information can also be added using the assistant.
For a person and machine group used in manufacturing, specifying the site is mandatory, and labor class and work
center information can be added. For a tool/equipment group used in manufacturing, specifying the site and tool
type are mandatory. If a tool/equipment group is to be used in manufacturing or maintenance or service,
Tool Tracking can be enabled by selecting the Track Check Out/In option in the
assistant. Tool/equipment group resources that are intended to be used in project management and project planning,
requires a cost element to be defined on the resource group.

System Effects
A resource group is created and can be used in the product area for which is has to been defined to be utilized.
For a person group, machine group, or tool/equipment group used in manufacturing, a labor class, work center, and
manufacturing tool group are created respectively and can be further defined.
