Introduction of the on-condition and condition monitoring concepts will permit a drastic
reduction in the number of scheduled component overhauls. The number of components may have required scheduled
overhaul, be for instance reduced to a figure in the order of 40:1. Other components could remain on-condition, if
suitable inspections could be accomplished to determine the continued serviceability of the component, until the
next scheduled inspection.
An example of a condition based requirement could be to evaluate the component state by comparing a measurement
taken with condition reference data. This can be done by ordering the vehicle to maintenance on a set schedule or
by automatically monitor the component using built-in test equipment (BITE).
