Pick Handling Unit by Choice
Explanation
Use this activity to pick a handling unit by choice, i.e. to report picking of handling units in a more flexible
way. What you pick must correspond to the customer order line, shipment order line or the shop order material line,
but it does not have to completely correspond to what is reserved on the pick list. I.e. you can pick another
handling unit on another location which contains another lot batch, serial etc.
This activity can be performed through Report Picking of Pick List Lines,
Report Picking of Shop Order Pick List and Warehouse Data Collection
pages.
Prerequisites
- The Pick by Choice list in the Site/Warehouse Management/General page must have been set
to Not Reserved, Not Pick Listed, Not on Printed Pick List, or Allowed.
- Pick by choice can only be used for customer order, shipment order and shop order pick lists. From customer
order, shipment order and shop order pick lists you can pick from customer order line reservations, customer
order pick list lines, shipment order line reservations, shop order material line reservations, shop order pick
list lines and DOP reservations depending on the site setting.
- Pick by choice is only supported for homogenous handling units or handling unit structures.
- Pick by choice is not allowed on a handling unit if part of the content, two out of five serial numbers for
example, has been picked already.
- For customer order pick list, over- and under-picking is supported as long as the handling unit or handling
unit structure represents only one order line.
- Pick by choice is not allowed if the reservation record is blocked for pick by choice. A handling unit is
considered blocked if any parts in the HU are blocked.
System Effects
- The handling unit will, if possible, be picked according to the site and source rules (only customer order,
shipment order and shop order).
- It is possible to pick the originally reserved handling unit through pick by choice. It is also included in
the List of Values.
- When you do under-picking on a customer order pick list, the remaining quantity will be unreserved.
Example: You have a pick list with a pallet that contains two boxes with only one part and a total
quantity to be picked is 15 pcs. Instead of picking the pallet you pick another box which contains 5 pcs using
the pick by choice functionality, the remaining quantity of 10 pcs will then be unreserved.
